CHESTER SPRINGS, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- Karthik Murugan is a ninth-grader at Downington East High School who recently became a published author of the book "Legal Attack: Chess an Intellectual Board War."

Murugan is a two-time Greater Mid-Atlantic Elementary Champion and a two-time Pennsylvania State Scholastic Bughouse Champion (bughouse is a chess variant played on two chessboards by four players in teams of two). He also won the 2017 U.S. Open National Elementary Chess Championship.
